Katarina Wit first started skating at five years old. When her talent for skating was more evident and she was accepted into a Karl-Marx-Stadt school that is geared towards kids with a sporty talent. In this school, she was introduced to the coach of her choice, Jutta Muller. Witt finished second at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. It was her first appearance. In the years since, Witt's elegance and grace have caught all the attention of people. Olympic Erfolg At the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal in figure skating for women in a highly competitive contest. A more competitive contest the following year, Witt took home her gold medal. Her free skate was an unbeatable loss. However, her gold medal resulted from the performance she put in both the compulsory figures (short programme) and mandatory figures. Witt became the very first repeated woman to win the women's figure skating since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame After enjoying great success in the field of acting, Witt returned to the sport in the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Games. Although she didn't take home a single gold medal, she enchanted fans despite her seventh place finish. Witt's entry into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame took place in 1995.
